🛠️How It Works & Configuration

Smoke Timer was created in MS Access environment. To run Smoke Timer, you need to have MS Access (part of MS Office), version 2016 or later, installed on your computer.

If MS Access is not installed, you must download and install the free Microsoft 365 Access Runtime manually before running the application.

Note: If you have an existing Microsoft Office / Office 365 installation (such as Home & Business) that lacks Access, installing the runtime manually may cause conflicts due to Microsoft’s Click-to-Run technology. In this case, please download the compatible web installer directly from the official Microsoft Support website to update your existing Office configuration, or use an Office version that includes MS Access.

Smoke Timer is flexible and adapts to the scale of your event. You can configure and run the software in two different setups:

  • Single Computer Setup: One laptop runs the software and connects directly to a projector or large screen to display the countdown to the participants.
  • Multi-Computer Network (LAN): Multiple computers are linked together. One acts as the master server for the timekeeper, while others serve as dedicated display screens around the venue.

For more information, see the SmokeTimer User Guide.
